Wheatgrass Books will host a study group for those wanting to read
and discuss the James Joyce classic, Ulysses. The group will meet
from 6 pm – 7:30 pm at Wheatgrass on first and third Tuesdays
February 1 st – May 31 st . Anyone with a desire to read Ulysses in its
entirety and to engage in discussion is welcome.
Published in its entirety in Paris by Sylvia Beach on February 2 nd , 1922,
Ulysses celebrates 100 years in print this year. The group will read the
book, listen to the RTE's 1982 Full Cast Audio Recording and meet to
talk about James Joyce’s Ulysses twice a month. The goal will be to read
the book before Bloomsday which takes place June 16th, 2022 while
avoiding any overly analytical approach that sucks the fun out of Joyce’s
work.
Ulysses is the story of a day, (June 16 th ) in the life of Leopold Bloom as
he travels Dublin and goes about his business of the day. Ulysses is
widely considered both a literary masterpiece and one of the more
difficult works of literature to read. It inspires such devotion that once-a-
year people gather to celebrate “Bloomsday” by reading the book aloud.
