The latest on the Livingston Growth Policy Update
September 3 @ 8:00 am - September 17 @ 5:00 pm
The Livingston Community Profile, an important part of the Growth Policy update, is out for public review and the city is looking for feedback.
Comments are due by 7 p.m. Friday, September 4. Please take time to review the draft and make sure your voice is heard. You can give feedback by emailing comments to email@example.com or by filling out the form at the bottom of the linked page.
The community profile is just that: a profile or summary of current conditions or data related to our city. Following Montana law, the profile provides us with a snap-shot of where our community is at a given point in time, covering issues like population, economic conditions, local services, public facilities, natural resources, and land uses.
While an overall growth policy provides policy guidance for city leaders to follow, the profile is supposed to stick to just the facts: the baseline data that helps guide the policies that follow. It’s the stuff that shouldn’t be controversial or questioned (unless some of the facts are perhaps missing or inaccurately represented).
We encourage you to take a look and see if you think anything is missing from the summaries provided.
And we encourage you to closely consider the section on Future Residential Land Use because frankly, we think some of this stuff is more on the policy-end of things necessitating thorough public input. We encourage you to consider whether all the things important about our great city are accurately articulated.
Things have changed since COVID. How should we as a community communicate those changes? Should we incorporate new population and statistical data from results of the 2020 Census? We obviously care about the natural world around us. Does the section on natural resources hit the mark? What about downtown? And the community as a whole? Are the characteristics of Livingston, our local economy, our history, existing infrastructure and neighborhoods, accurately and appropriately convened?
The full-blown policy end of the Growth Policy is due out in the next month. We look forward to reviewing that document and seeing how Burton Planning Associates summarizes the variety of public input provided to date.
Formal public hearings before the planning board and city commissioners have yet to be scheduled. We will inform you of those dates when they are made public. This is an important upcoming process and we’ll need to be prepared.
