An edible oasis is growing at HOTR!🌱🍅
With the help of dedicated volunteers and staff, we've nearly completed construction of an edible oasis at Home on the Range (HOTR). We've built three different types of raised beds using a variety of materials and styles that are accessible to any gardener on any budget. We will use this as a demonstration area that makes gardening accessible in any urban environment and tailor our outreach efforts to motivate our members and neighbors to grow their own healthy foods.
If you are interested in learning more or helping us plant, harvest and tend the beds, please contact Paula or Jim at (406) 248-1154.
We're hiring canvassers! 👟📋
Do you love working with people? Do you want to make a difference in Montana? Join the Northern Plains team as canvasser! As part of our 2019 canvass team, you won’t be tied to a desk. You will be making change happen at the local by having conversations with Montanans about clean air, water, and a clean energy future!
Visit our website for more information about positions and how to apply.

Big "royalty rule" win! Fossil fuel companies to pay their fair share...
June 11 marked a big policy victory for taxpayers! The federal government elected not to appeal a recent court ruling about mineral royalties. As a result, fossil fuel companies must now pay their fair share.
Fossil fuel companies regularly dodge royalty payments to the public through a loophole allowing them to essentially sell their resources to themselves at discounted prices. This is done through smaller subsidiary companies set up by large companies. A 2016 investigation by Headwaters Economics estimated that Montana loses $11.8 million a year in revenue from this loophole.
Northern Plains joined a coalition campaigning for closure of this loophole back in 2014. As a result, a new rule was established in 2016 blocking this tax-dodging practice. Unfortunately, the Trump administration repealed the rule change in 2017. Attorney Generals in western states sued the Office of Natural Resources and Revenue (ONRR) to have it reinstated. We intervened in the case to ensure that this "fair royalty rule" would remain in place. On June 11th the rule became official, and the royalty loophole is now closed!
